| Description: | What is a DOULA?
A doula is a non-meidcal assistant, educated in prenatal care, childbirth and the postpartum period. She understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman before, during, and after her delivery.
The word doula comes from Greek, and refers to a woman who personally serves another woman.
How will you and your partner be supported throughout pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum?
I will provide some educaiton on the different paths labor and delivery often take. During this time, we will get to know each other a little more. I will direct you to various childbirth education prograns, where there you can receive further education if you feel the need. Along with educating and reassuring you and your family, this also helps you to create a realistic birht plan togetherandb to share with your health care provider and staff. Birth plans ensure that your feelings surrounding labor and birth are better communicated and preserved.
Your partner and I will work together using massage, positioning and breathing techniques to help you work through the various stages of labor. I will assist your partner in his special role with encouragement and by helping to guide him through comfort measures that may be useful to you.
Postnatally, I offer routine newborn care and guidance or education of family in bathing, cord care, diapering, calming techniques, breastfeeding and newborn nutrition and development. I will perform light household tasks including laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, running errands ,accompanying mother and baby to pediatrician appointments, and meal preparation. I also offer care of older siblings.
We will work together to ensure your confidence in the transition from pregnancy to parenthood.
